standard glass big

Float architectural glass production (width ranging from 2mm to 19mm) requires a combination of materials found in mineral deposits. The full range of materials necessary for the production and their concentration in the final product according to European Norm (EN) 572, is as follows:

Mechanical Properties

  • Density (at 18oC): ρ = 2.500 kg/m3
  • Elastic Modulus (Young’s Modulus): E = 70.000 N/mm2
  • Poisson’s Ratio: ν = 0,2
  • Shear Modulus: G = E/[2(1+ν)] = 29.166 N/mm2
  • Knoop Hardness Test: 6 GPa
  • Mohs Hardness Scale: 6
  • Bending Strength
(safety margin coefficients are applied during structural design for load resistance according to relevant European Norms and National Standards):
    - Annealed architectural glass = 45 N/mm2
    - Heat Strengthened glass = 70 N/mm2
    - Tempered glass = 120 N/mm2
  • Compression resistance: 1000 N/mm2

Thermal Properties

  • Transition temperature: 600oC
  • Melting temperature: 1.500oC
  • Coefficient of (linear) thermal expansion: α = 9x10-6 m/(mK)
  • Specific heat capacity: c = 720 J/(kgK)
  • Heat emission (without coating): e = 0,89
  • Thermal conductivity: λ = 1 W/(mK)

Float glass forms the base for VASGLASS for achieving a full range of products, all of which deliver maximum clarity, safety, and durability.
